Balm of Gilead

Beautifully-scented perennial but not very hardy and will not survive frosts. Also known as canary balm. It can be grown in the garden or thrives in containers. Pale pink flower heads last throughout the summer. Tender annual. Likes moist soil with shade. Can grow up to 4ft tall but will stay a nicely manageable size in pots. Add leaves or an infusion to baths as a room scent plant and then dry leaves for use in pot pourri. Rub leaves on skin as an insect repellent. Some claim it is an aphrodisiac.

Cedronella canariensis
