Comfrey

A perennial that will tolerate shade and prefers soil not too dry. Eating is not recommended, but it has been used very widely to make a poultice for bruises, cuts and sprains - hence the common name boneset. It makes a good garden fertilizer and leaves can be put down to tempt slugs away from salad crops.

Symphytum officinale

Historic:

“A salve concocted from the fresh herb will certainly tend to promote the healing of bruised and broken parts.”
Gerard
